Sheep and Cows and Cabbage... oh my! Day 15.

June 2, 2016

We are in a small hamlet called Gonzar. We walked 16.7 miles. We were supposed to walk 16. There are many roads to St. James.

We saw this pile of the fattest fence posts we have ever seen and walked past the turn and did an out and back. A lady in a tractor making hay stopped us and said (my interpretation), "Stupido peregrinos, the road to Santiago is that way."

Then we left the path to go up to Portamarin and get lunch and the WC.

Broke the 100km mark to Santiago.
Along the way, grain bin.
Nice WC in Morgade, 5 miles by 8:00 for breakfast
Resting place
Small church by resting place
We are showered and resting before the pilgrim dinner. Had beers with the Irish couple as soon as we got in. Feeling better now. It was a long 16.7 miles. The last couple miles are always the worst.

Some kind of cabbage plant for Caldo Gallegos soup

Sheep and cows by Vilacha

Old stone building hooked to a new house with sunroom

Hay fields

Stopped here for breakfast after walking 5 miles

More cemetery plots
Swimming park for summer. Not in use yet.

Horrible 8km walk to Gonzar. Tiny hamlet but nice enough room. We will all eat together again. We have been meeting a lot of English speaking people now. The Irish couple I met last night are in this little alberque/hostel. We will have dinner with them tonight and they are stayin in the same place again tomorrow night. We will get to Santiago the same day but we are breaking up our stages differently after that. They fly to Dublin then go home to Kildare on the 7th. We fly the 8th. They bought us a beer when we arrived tonight.

Churches and house

We met a couple from New Jersey today. They said they have shuttle vans from JFK to Newark airport. Would that work for you Kevin?

This room has no outlets!

See me waving?
Nice room though for 35 EU. Tomorrow should be fancier since it is more expensive at 46 EU.

Joyce: We laughed with the Irish couple as we share the same bathroom with them and others. Really it's a BR that has one door and locked from the inside with a key.

Garry: I'm beginning to hurt as much as mom (feet). I figure we have 202 miles in with 52.8 to go.

We were greeted by the Irish couple I talked about last night, Tom & Deirdre. We had dinner with them for about 3-1/2 hours. We are staying at the same hostel tomorrow night before our schedules diverge. They are flying to Dublin a day before us then picking us up from the airport. We are going to stay at their house in Kilarney and take a bus down to Dublin the next morning to get a stamp at St. James gate by the Guinness brewery. That's the plan so far anyway.
